Monday, January 16th: We had a very busy day today! My friends continue to be obsessed with penguins. We have been studying the emperor penguin and on Friday, Mrs. Meredith made a life-sized emperor penguin. We had a chance to take a few pictures with our friend - they are cute! We learned that the male emperor penguin is responsible for taking care of the egg until it hatches. Once the baby hatches, it stays warm standing between dad's feet. My friends decided to give it a try! Ask us how do the baby and parents recognize each other? My friends had a great time writing about penguins. We put out some penguin vocabulary and my friends had a great time writing in English and French! This afternoon some of my friends were working on their number recognition and counting. They had to draw a number from the box and then represent the number on a magnetic ten frame! Fun! Great counting! My JK friends were working with numbers to 10 and my SK friends were working with numbers to 20. They are getting good at recognizing those tricky teen numbers! Other friends were having fun creating structures. They told me the blocks are 3D shapes! We are starting something new. We have a # Kindness wall! When my friends do something kind for someone else their name goes on a # post-it and then on the wall! We have two entries so far! My last picture is a bit of a mystery! Mrs. Meredith is working on a special project but the picture might give you a clue .... Here are some candid shots from around the room today! Have a wonderful evening! :)
