Welcome to Mrs. Helgason & Mrs. Koenig's Kindergarten class. We are a Catholic French Immersion full day program located at St. Anne Elementary School in Kanata, Ontario. Our classroom philosophy is based upon RESPECT, the GOSPEL VALUES and LEARNING through PLAY.
Our Vision:
Our kindergarten program fosters children’s growth and learning: socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and creatively. Children become lifelong learners in an environment that is nurturing, play-based and developmentally appropriate.
What is "Play Based" or "Emergent" Leaning?
Children are full of natural curiosity and they explore this curiosity through play. When children are playing, it is the perfect time to learn! Play teaches children how to problem solve, make friends, express themselves, enjoy the world around them, and how to recognize letters, words, sounds and numbers. All of these skills form the foundation of a love of learning.
In the full-day kindergarten program, teachers and early childhood educators structure play to create meaningful and rich learning moments. While children play, they chat with their friends, problem solve, draw pictures and role play. While at play, children will tell stories, and sit quietly to listen to others. All of these activities help children develop, learn, and eventually acquire the skills that they will need in grade one and beyond.
Spiritual Growth
"In partnership with home, parish and community, the Ottawa Catholic School Board ensures that the teachings and values of Jesus Christ are integrated in all aspects of school life. Our students grow not only socially and academically but spiritually as well. By providing the necessary resources for quality Catholic education, the Board supports the development of lifelong learners striving for academic excellence in a nurturing, safe and vibrant community. All individuals are challenged to become responsible and contributing citizens in an increasingly complex and diverse world."
