Tuesday, March 29th: I hope you all enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing Easter weekend! We had a busy day today as we welcomed Mrs. Meredith to our class! It is great to have her back! The children were engaged in a fun activity with Mrs. Meredith to help her learn their names! They were stamping their names on paper for our class job board! Awesome! Here are just a few shots of some fun activities this morning. Some friends are working on their fine motor skills (and left to right transfer), some were playing on the iPads and Smart Board, some were doing puzzles and acting out their favorite Dr. Seuss story with the finger puppets, others were building, and others were working on creating a sign for our new Veterinarian's office,! A very busy crew! On that note, every vet needs patients and we are encouraging the children to bring in their favorite stuffed animal so that they can get a check up with our wonderful vets! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Thursday, March 24th: It was a bitter sweet day today! My friends are very excited about the Easter holiday but sad that they had to say goodbye to Miss Jackson. We will all miss her! They made her a wonderful card and we would all like to wish her the best at St. Gemma and hope our paths cross again soon! Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy your families! :)
Wednesday, March 23rd: We had a very busy day today! We started our day with the book "God Gave Us Easter". We enjoyed the story and named the many ways we see God's love in our lives. We identified our families, nature and animals as some of the ways we see God's love everyday! We learned that when we listen with our hearts we can hear God. After our story we had DPA with Mrs. Carter-Rae and then visited some of our favourite centres. We have been spending some time with Miss Jackson as we are sad to say goodbye! We have been enjoying learning with her and having fun! Here are some cute shots of us being "goofy" with Miss Jackson! My friends had a great time exploring different activities today. We used a new building set called "stick ems". Like their name implies, you simply "stick" them together! They made some amazing creations - a unicorn, a man with wings ... My friends were in an Easter mood today. They got artistic creating Easter eggs with a chick inside. Here they are enjoying their art.. Many of my friends were into building today. Some were using the big blocks, some were using the flubber, others were using the sands alive and some were using the light table! My friends are still loving coding. They continue to explore the "kodable app" on the iPad. It is getting increasingly complicated - they now have to program in direction and colour! Great use of our problem solving skills! I am not normally with the children on Thursdays; however, tomorrow afternoon we will be having a goodbye "popcorn" party for Miss Jackson. I will do a quick post tomorrow to share some pictures from our afternoon! Have a wonderful evening :)
Monday, March 21st: Welcome back! We took advantage of the nice weather (and the lack of water on the yard) this morning and began our day outside! The children had a great time playing and reconnecting with friends! One of our friends celebrated a birthday over the break! She is now 5! This morning she got busy making her birthday crown! Happy Birthday! This morning my friends were busy doing various activities. Some were creating on the light table, some were playing with the doll house and others were having fun with the sensory sand! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Friday, March 11th: We had a great day today! It is hard to believe that next week is March break! The year has flown! We got right into activities this morning because at 10:40 we went to "Gym Jam Tennis". As you know today was pyjama day so here are some cute shots of my friends in jammies - we even had "twins"! Before we went to "Gym Jam" my friends were busy pursuing their favourite activities. Some of my friends were using the iPads (they love the new Kodable app), some were playing with play dough and others were having fun exploring shapes and patterns on the light table! Many of my friends have been enjoying our new Lego. They have been building the pieces in the book. It has been great for their problem solving skills! They work so cooperatively together to create the pieces! I am so impressed with their building - the pieces they built were intricate and required following the instructions to build them! Great problem solving! The motorcycle was not the only Lego building going on. They made some wonderful houses with doors and windows ... Here are some shots of our "Gym Jam Tennis". The children had a great time playing with the balls and racquets. The first thing we had to do was hold the ball, bounce it once and catch it. Then we had catch the ball and throw it over the net. After that, the instructors let us try hitting the ball with a racquet. It was fun! Have a wonderful March break and enjoy your families! :)
Wednesday, March 9th: * Reminder * As part of Spirit Week at St. Anne tomorrow is clone day! Dress alike with a friend - you are clones!! Special Mention: Yesterday we had two "Birthday Girls"!! One was 5 and the other was 6! Here they are modelling their "Birthday Crowns"! Happy Birthday Bonne fête! I hope you guys had a great day! This post is a little long because we have some great photos from our "Whacky Wednesday" and we have a special section - today we learned how to code on the iPad. We had an awesome day today! We started our day with Mrs. Carter-Rae doing some DPA and ended it with our "Reading Buddies". We love Wednesdays!! "Whacky Wednesday" Here is a collection of our "Whacky Wednesday" photos! My friends looked great - some had whacky hair, some had their clothes on backwards, some had them on inside out, and some had whacky things on their clothes! Enjoy these fun photos! After DPA my friends got into some fun activities. Many of my friends were enjoying our "Hair Salon". This week is our last week with the salon - we brainstormed for some new ideas after the March Break. Stay tuned! Other friends were having fun with Lego. Earlier this week they were making the letters of the alphabet using Lego and today they decided to copy some of the designs in the booklet that came with the Lego! Great problem solving skills and cooperative learning! Other friends were using the other set of Lego to make airplanes. I think we are going to start a flying/space inquiry after the March break! Some very creative pieces! Many of my friends were having fun "in the sand"! Some were playing with the conventional sand while others were using the sands alive! This afternoon I decided to try something new with the children. We had a lesson on coding! They loved it! They had to program the character to follow a path using the directional arrows! The first one we did together and then they experimented in pairs! If you have an iPad you can download the app for free - it is called Kodable! We ended our day with our grade 6 buddies! Today they were helping us work with words. We were playing a game and had to clap out the syllables for different words! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, March 7th: * Reminder * This week is Spirit Week and tomorrow is jersey day! Wear your favorite jersey or t-shirt! For a full list of the themes please see the St. Anne Newsletter from Mrs. Campbell. Happy Monday! We had a very busy day today. We started our day a little differently today, we simply gathered for O Canada and prayer and then went to activities as we had library. We had a birthday girl this morning so we sang "Bonne fête" in French and "Happy Birthday" in English! Tomorrow we have 2 "Birthday Girls"!! Some of my friends were exploring numbers with Mrs. Helgason - which then turned into a game of "Go Fish", other friends were working on the Smartboard, some were using the 10 frames and dinosaur counters and others were playing on the light table. Check out the end of the post for a "Just for Fun" shot! Very cute! Since my friends are so excited about building we gave them a new challenge today! We gave them some rocks and wanted to see how high they could stack them! The highest was 4 - he said his strategy was to use flat rocks - they balance better that way! Pretty smart!! Other friends were having fun working on their fine motor skills with the Easter eggs. They were also being great scientists examining the eggs with magnifying glasses! They look bigger! This afternoon my friends had fun making play dough with Miss Jackson. After they made it they used food colouring to colour it - I think they are all in a St. Patrick's mood - our play dough is green! Top o the mornin to ya! Little did they know that their sneaky leprechaun teachers snuck in some math - a great measurement lesson!! As promised, here is our "Just for Fun" photo! These two friends loved the story "Stephanie's Ponytail" so much that they asked Miss Jackson to give them matching side ponytails! Too cute!! Have a wonderful evening and enjoy this mild weather! :)
