Wednesday, May 13th: We have had a very busy couple of days. Yesterday, we had a presentation from an Ottawa Firefighter about fire safety. We had a lot of fun completing the books he gave us. Our favorite was the maze where we had to find our way out of the fire! This morning we started a little "mini-inquiry" on bees. We read the book "Busy Buzzers - Bees in Your Backyard" on the Smartboard. It was full of great facts about bees. We discovered how important bees are to plants. They help with pollination ask us how! Our interest in bees started with Mrs. Dilabio (our vice-principal). She found a bird's nest and a dead bee on a walk with her dog. She brought them in for us to look at in our science area. We loved looking at them using the magnifying glasses. To go with the bird's nest and the bee we made a sensory bin full of bugs! Don't worry - we used plastic ones! Here are some great photos of our scientists in action. I love to hear them talk about their wonderings and questions! In keeping with science and sensory play, we made some more flubber! The children love the feel of it! They love making it "drip"! You can't do this with play dough! Our friends are still having a lot of fun with measurement. As I said, we have started measuring and comparing objects according to weight! Now they weigh everything! We have been working on more letter blends. This friend is working on the "th" sound! She is creating her book! Have a wonderful evening! :)
