We were all a little sad this morning as this was Tinsel's last day with us - she will be returning to the North Pole until next year. She was dressed in a chef's outfit today and left us some chocolates that she made!!

Thursday, December 17th: * Reminder * Tomorrow is our Christmas pyjama party! The children are invited to wear their pyjamas (Christmas or regular) - we are going to spend the afternoon enjoying some hot chocolate, popcorn and the movie "An Elf's Story". * The Adventures of Tinsel * I think our crazy elf is confused!! We found her this morning sitting on patio furniture for our doll house!! Mrs. H. had the furniture and I guess Tinsel found it and got it out for us to use!! * A Big Thank You * Thank you to all of the parents who came in today for Art-O-Rama! The children had a great time! I just wanted to do a quick post and share some pictures from the day! Have a wonderful evening! It is hard to believe tomorrow is our last day before the Christmas holidays! :)
Wednesday, December 16th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * This morning our crazy elf had a message for us from Santa! She wrote it in marshmallows, the best part, we got to eat it after we read it!! Too fun!! * Please check your child's mailbag * Please check your child's mailbag as they have brought home a lovely Christmas surprise!! Enjoy!! Merry Christmas!! We are looking forward to seeing some of you at Art-O-Rama tomorrow! Friday, December 18th: We are having a Christmas pyjama party on Friday! We are going to wear our Christmas pjs and enjoy some hot chocolate, popcorn and the movie "An Elf's Story"! It is the Elf on the Shelf movie!! Thanks Tinsel, she gave it to us last year!! We started our morning with a fun "Canadian" Christmas story!! We read "A Porcupine in a Pine Tree". Tinsel left us the book and the porcupine last year! We loved it! Mrs. H. read us the story but Miss Jackson is going to sing it with us tomorrow (sadly, Mrs. H. can't sing :() After our story we sang some Christmas songs and then my friends got into the "groove". They love the "Just Dance Crazy Santa" song and enjoy duplicating his moves!! I took some photos so you could check it out!! Some of my friends were "fishing" today! Miss Jackson made us a game to help with our letter and number recognition! We had a great time playing! While some friends were fishing other friends were baking. We are enjoying all of the cookies that our friends make! They are so creative!! Santa has a busy bunch of elves!! My friends are so artistic and creative! They made these cards for our grade 5 helpers!! We are going to give them out on Friday to thank them for their help!! We also got them Tim Horton's gift cards - a little bird told us they like the "candy cane" hot chocolate!! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Tuesday, December 15th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * This morning we found Tinsel listening to her "Elfpod". She was listening to Christmas music to get ready for our sing along! The kindergarten classes got together this afternoon to sing and spread some Christmas cheer!! She left us the fixings for hot chocolate for after our sing along but we didn't have time to make it today so we are going to enjoy it tomorrow when we watch "An Elf's Story". Here are some cute shots of us singing in the gym! All the kindergartens got together to spread a little cheer!! It was a last minute thing and originally we were supposed to be in the Learning Commons (Library) and that was why we could not invite parents ~ sorry! :( Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, December 14th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * Apparently Tinsel is missing snow! She can't believe we still don't have any!! This morning she made a snow angel on our counter and left us a new snowman puzzle! We had fun doing the puzzle!! This morning we continued our Advent celebration. Today, we lit the pink candle for the third week of Advent. The pink candle represents love. We are asking God to help us be patient and kind while we wait! After we lit the candles we read the book "God Gave Us Christmas". After our Advent celebration we did a fun art activity. As you know, we have grade 5 helpers that come at lunch! We decided to make them a Christmas card to thank them for all they do for us. We did our fingerprints in red and green and we are going to attach them like a string of lights and give the girls the card on Thursday with a treat!! SHHH!! it's a secret!! One of my friends has an older sister that comes to help us ... hopefully she won't see this!! Other friends were using the Christmas stencils to make the front of the cards. We are going to decorate them with glitter!! This afternoon many of my friends had fun in "Santa's Workshop", playing with the doll house, and decorating angels. Puzzles seemed to be the activity of the day ~ one of my friends decided to make the "Pete the Cat" puzzle after the snowman puzzle!! This afternoon some of the boys were using the wooden letters! They started in the blocks and trucks and then used a garage to bring them to a table - they were making words and tracing letters!! Great job!! Have a wonderful evening! It is hard to believe there are only 4 more days until Christmas break! :)
Friday, December 11th: * Important Parent Survey * The OCSB calendar committee is asking for your input regarding the Christmas Break for the 2016-2017 school year. Please take a few moments to vote for your preference. Just click on the calendar below and it will take you to the survey. Thank you! :) Happy Friday! We have had a very busy week .. so busy that Mrs. H. forgot to take a picture of Tinsel and her adventures today! She was wrapped in toilet paper! Apparently she had a scuffle with the Gingerbread Man. We started our day outside today as the weather was so nice! My friends have been digging holes around the play structure - the holes are getting so big that my friends can sit in them! Wow! We came inside to a very big surprise! The workmen were in last night and started on our new wall! A very different look - we are managing with things out of place until the construction is over! My friends love Lego! They use it for so many purposes - here they have created their own house complete with people! Great cooperative play! My friends spent time today doing some of their favorite activities. We had friends playing with the cars and garages, exploring in the sensory bin, playing with the doll house and colouring! A few of my friends were enjoying our new reading area. Some were reading and others were having fun with "I Spy" books - this one was Merry Christmas Charlie Brown and they had to find the different objects! My friends helped me create a new "art" piece for above our reading area. We wove ribbon around branches to create a new look! We love it! The children did the weaving and I put the sticks together!! Have a wonderful weekend! It is hard to believe we only have one week left before the Christmas break! :)
Wednesday, December 9th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * It would seem that our elf Tinsel is obsessed with snow and winter! Today we found her downhill skiing! She borrowed some blocks from the children to make the slope! She reminded us that it is important to get outside and enjoy the weather even in the winter!! My friends were very happy to get back into "Santa's Workshop" and the "Elves Bakery" today. We had to suspend play in those areas while Mrs. H. packed up the cupboard (we are having a new wall built in our classroom over the break). The gentlemen were busy baking cookies and the ladies were busy building toys! Here are some fun photos! :) While some friends were enjoying "Santa's Workshop" and the "Elves Bakery" other friends were busy making angels. They were using gold and silver glitter (dangerous to leave them with glitter!!) and when they were finished we hung their angels on the board! Other friends were working on their fine motor skills. They were moving Christmas bells from left to right using tweezers! They were having fun holding the bells and shaking them in the tweezers! Other elves were busy building with the blocks, Lego and cars (I think they are inspired by the construction site next door!) They have made some pretty cool creations! Wait til they find out in January we are going to use Lego for math!! As you know, Miss Jackson and I have been reorganizing our learning spaces. We wanted to create more intimate nooks for the children to learn and explore! Here are some photos of some of the changes. I have also included the images from our bulletin board as they are hard to see in the picture! Here are the images contained on the clipboards! Very fun and show all of our fun and learning! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, December 7th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * It seems our Tinsel had a very busy weekend. She was helping Santa in his workshop and then did some Christmas baking; consequently, she needed a spa day today to relax. We found her taking a snow bath (apparently they are good for elves and their energy) with a towel on her head and cucumber slices over her eyes! We hope the spa day helped! We were very busy this morning. When we came in , we celebrated the second week of Advent and lit the second purple candle. The purple candle this week represents light. We talked about Jesus being the light of the world and sang the song "Light the Advent Candle". After our Advent celebration we went to the library with Miss Jackson. Mrs. Helgason stayed behind in class to rearrange some of our spaces. We now have two new reading spaces! One for reading books and the other for listening to books! We loved the new seating for listening to books - big comfy pillows and an old railway tie! Here are some great shots of us enjoying our library books in our new areas! I got a chance to take some photos outside today at recess. My friends were having a wonderful time rolling down the hill! If they are having fun now imagine how much more fun it will be with snow! Reading was not the only popular activity today. Some of my friends were baking cookies, some were making snowflakes and some were building! We are enjoying the more open look of our classroom! As you know Miss Jackson and I have been rearranging the classroom! We moved our Religion table today and it looks amazing! Our Advent celebrations are now front and centre and the children enjoy looking at the wreath and the nativity scene! One of my friends made a wonderful Christmas tree with Mrs. Ivy. He did a fantastic job and showed it off for me in our new listening area! We love the white lights in our tree! He said the picture was for his mom! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Friday, December 4th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * It would seem that our Tinsel was inspired by a snowstorm on her way back to the North Pole last night. She showed up this morning in a new hat and sweater set and let us know that she had a snowball fight with our snowman and his dog! The poor dog got a snowball right between his ears!! We started our day off outside today! My friends had a great time playing "What Time Is It Mr. Wolf", "Dead Bugs" and sliding on the climbers! Here are some great photos - we are taking advantage of the weather while we can! :) When we came in we read the book "Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho!" My friends loved it! They are obsessed with these books! We have also read "Click, Clack, Moo!" and "Click, Clack, Boo!" The duck is amazing! We loved his goggles!! After our story and snack we had some play time! Once again the bakery was a hit! I think it is the amazing cinnamon and gingerbread dough Mrs. Devlin made us that keeps them coming back! Here are some great shots of our elves making cookies!! While some of my elves were busy in the bakery other elves were busy playing Jenga! They had a great time!! Who knew - Jenga is fun and stressful at the same time!! Check out their expressions - priceless! While some of our friends were busy with Jenga other friends were "reading" at the listening centre! They are loving the books on cd! As I have said, Miss Jackson and I are in the process of transforming our classroom. Today, we created a new reading area and my friends were anxious to give it a try! On the back of the bookcase we are going to display some of their art pieces!! Have a wonderful weekend! :)
