As you have noticed, we sent your child's blanket home today to be laundered. You can return them in January! Thank you. With so much illness going around the classroom and school we thought it would be a good opportunity to santize them!

Wednesday, December 21st:
I want to congratulate all of my little elves! You rocked the concert! Mrs. Meredith and I were so proud of all of you! Congratulations and well done! We would also like to thank all of the parents, grandparents aunts and uncles that were able to join us! You made the day incredibly special for your children! As part of our "Spirit Week" tomorrow is Winter Wonderland Day! Come as your favorite winter character: Santa, Reindeer, Grinch, Elsa ... Monday, December 19th: * Reminder * Just a quick reminder that our Christmas Concert begins at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21st! We are looking forward to seeing you then! Remember to dress your child in red and green! This is a short blog post! I am just posting the photos from our "Art-o-Rama" day on Friday. Thank you to all of the parents who attended: Mrs. Huntington, Ms. Ward, Mrs. Dinardo, Mrs. Beckley, Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Devlin! The children loved the crafts and were so excited to see all of you! We sent their works of art home today so check thei r mailbags! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Wednesday, December 14th: * Reminder * If you have not done so, please return the permission form for the Christmas Concert. We want to use a light glitter powder on the children's cheeks - elves have sparkle! Our elf left us a little present this morning. Tinsel knows that we are obsessed with elves as we are doing the song "I Want to be an Elf" for our Christmas concert. She left us a book "The Elves Night Before Christmas" and a fun writing activity! If I were one of Santa's elvesI would ... After gym my friends got into some favorite activities! Remember I told you they were obsessed with elves? Check out these photos from our dramatic play area - we had elves building toys, baking cookies (a big thank you to Mrs. Devlin for the gingerbread playdough!) and relaxing in the chair! Other friends were having fun drawing and playing at the winter sensory bin - snowflakes, bells and the big trucks! Fun! Other friends were having fun with the elf floor puzzle! I told you they were obsessed with elves! :) This afternoon we had some fun! We started with some DPA after quiet time! We did 'Just Dance Kids - Jingle Bells" and then our favorite "Just Dance Kids - Crazy Santa"! Ask us to show you some moves! After our DPA we continued to have Christmas fun with a new book. This book was fun because we didn't read it - we sang it! I sang the story and my friends sang the chorus! It is the 3rd book in the Canadian Christmas book series "Deck the Halls - A Canadian Christmas Carol". My friends had a blast singing the "Fa la la la la" part! We were very engaged in our different activities this afternoon! We loved the writing activity Tinsel left us "If I were one of Santa's elves I would ... ", other friends loved Mrs. H's building challenge. I gave them some Magna-tiles and bells. When I asked them why I gave them bells too they said because they are metal and will stick to the Magna-tiles. I just gave them a building challenge - the photos of what they came up with are amazing (again they didn't use them the way I thought they would)! Awesome! Other friends were finishing up a special Christmas project and some were using the snowflakes from our winter sensory bin on the light table! My friends amazed me with their creations with the Magna-tiles and bells! I thought they would use the triangles and make Christmas trees and then use the bells for decoration ... I was so wrong - they were much more creative! Here they are in the building process and with their creations! Have a wonderful evening! :)
* Angel Tree *
A big thank you to all of you that took an angel from our "Angel Tree". Just a gentle reminder that the wrapped gift is due back at school this Friday, December 16th. Please remember to attach the angel to the gift. Thank you for supporting those in need in our community! Monday, December 12th: As you know, today was a snow day! We had a relaxing day today! We started our day outside - it was fun to play in all of the fluffy snow! I think a few of my friends made snow angels! We joined the rest of the school for an Advent celebration! When we returned to class we had snack and then listed to a really fun Christmas story "Dashing Through the Snow - A Canadian Jingle Bells" - or should I say we sang it!! After snack we went to the library! Miss Alexa read us a fun Christmas story about a mouse and a bear! We loved the story but had more fun answering the question on the whiteboard. "What is your favorite Christmas tradition?" Here are some of my friends replies: "Opening presents before breakfast!" (Nico), "Making cookies with mommy and delivering them to people", (Brooke), "Going to see Santa", (Annshalom), "A Christmas sleepover", (Salina), "Christmas shopping with mom", (Colin), "Making a gingerbread house with mom and dad", (Santiago), "Baking cookies", (Elle), "Making gingerbread boy cookies", (Noe). I think Mrs. Meredith had the best answer of all "Watching the Christmas Pageant!!" we recorded our answers on the whiteboard! This afternoon we had our own Advent celebration in the classroom. We lit the 3rd Advent candle - the pink one. It represents joy! Then we sang "Light the Advent Candle". After our song we read the book "Goodnight Manger". It was a fun story about the baby Jesus trying to sleep in a noisy manger. My friends then spent some time practicing our French song for the Christmas Concert - "Quand le Père Noël vient me visiter!" and "We Wish you a Merry Christmas". Once our singing was done my friends were free to choose their own activities. Some of them were writing Christmas words, others were having fun with Lego and some were doing puzzles. One of my friends brought in some fun puzzles and they enjoyed putting them together on the carpet! Have wonderful evening! :)
Friday, December 9th: Happy Friday! We have had a very busy day! As you know we had a very eventful afternoon. We had to evacuate the school because of a strange smell but the fire department came and all was fine! The children were awesome! They did a great job staying calm and following our fire drill procedure! Excellent work! We started our day singing and practicing for our Christmas concert. My friends are very excited. After our practice we got into some fun Christmas activities. Some of my friends were having fun with the "I Spy" books - we had an "I Spy Santa", "I Spy Charlie Brown Christmas" and "I Spy Numbers". They had a great time using the magnifying glasses to help them with their search! Other friends were having some fun with a different type of Christmas book. These books are magnetic! They have simple backgrounds and the children can use the magnets to decorate! Fun! One is a "gingerbread house" and the other is Christmas living room scene! My artists were getting into the Christmas spirit with some Christmas colouring! Some were working on gingerbread men and women, others were working on candy canes and Christmas trees! We are still loving our wintery sensory bin! There is just something about snow and ice - today we added the animals and igloo again! As usual I had some friends working at the counter! One was writing Christmas words and the other was having fun on the iPad! I am so glad they are enjoying that space. The stools make it fun! Under the heading of fun - one of our grade 4 helpers made us some slime at recess! We had a blast playing with it! We hung our "Kindness Quilt" in the hall today! It is even more beautiful than I imagined. Thank you Mrs. Meredith! I took a picture of the whole quilt and then more close up pictures so you could see each square! The children never cease to amaze me! Awesome artists and writers! It is beautiful!!! Here is a collection of smaller more focused pictures. I am not doing a special effect on the edges of these photos so that hopefully you can read the contents of each heart. Kindness is ... The "Picolage" pictures at each end were the children's idea. They did not want there to be any spaces in the quilt so Mrs. Meredith created the picolages to fill the space!
Have a wonderful weekend! :) Wednesday, December 7th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * Our crazy elf was at it again! This morning we found her having a snowball fight with the porcupine from "A Porcupine in a Pine Tree" book. She found Mrs. H's copy of the book and left it out for us to read! * Art-O-Rama * Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered. Right now, we have 3 parent volunteers but need 5. If you are interested in volunteering please complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible. Thank you! We had a very busy day today! We started our morning in the gym and then did some practicing for our Christmas Concert! We are getting very good at our song! Since Monday's post was so short I am putting in a few photos from Monday and Tuesday. My friends were inspired by our Advent celebration and did some writing! They then had a great time working their fine motor skills using the tweezers to put decorations on the Christmas trees. Other friends were using the blocks to create shapes. My friends are still working on our "Kindness Quilt" - stay tuned for the big unveiling we hope to have it finished on Friday! It is beautiful! The kinects continue to be popular. My friends also got into some writing - they wanted to know how to spell Santa and were drawing pictures to go with it! Today my friends really enjoyed our winter sensory bin. They arranged the snow and ice and then put in some cars with the bigger trucks. The big trucks were clearing the roads! Seems appropriate with the weather on Monday! We had some fun math activities! We had to colour the numbered elves, cut them out and then place them in the correct numerical order! We created our own number paths! Awesome! Not only did our activity work our number sense it also worked our fine motor skills! Our other math activity was roll and build a snowman! We had to roll a die and then according to our number draw a certain part of the snowman! Thanks Mrs. Meredith! We had a blast! Other friends were having a great time using the iPads. We are still in the process of having some of the apps we requested loaded. Hopefully it will be soon! Once they are all loaded I will publish a list on the blog for you. Some of the apps are free and others are under $2.00! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, December 5th: This is just a quick post to share some photos from our Advent celebration. I left school early today with the stomach flu so I apologize for not having more photos! The children did an amazing job with their prayer and sang "Talk a Walk to Christmas" and "Light the Advent Candle". It was nice to come together as a kindergarten community to celebrate the Christmas season. Have a wonderful evening! :)
