Thursday, December 18th:
* The Adventures of Tinsel * Tinsel must have listened to our snowman story yesterday ~ she got creative with "snow" this morning! She made us a snow angel. I guess the "Snow Santa" from the story inspired her! Wednesday, December 17th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * We would like to thank Ms. Young for giving us the Christmas tree for our classroom. Tinsel was sitting in our Christmas tree this morning with a note. She left us the supplies to maker our own elf friend. Today is a snow day so it has been very quiet. Since it was a snow day, we read the book "Snowmen at Christmas". It got us in the holiday spirit and we decided to end our day with "Frosty the Snowman"! Our day has been very quiet. We spent some time this morning making our own elf friend. Tinsel left us the materials and some magic "Elf Dust" to sprinkle at home. We were also making decorations for our tree. The Christmas tree is fun and adds a touch of Christmas spirit to our classroom! Some of our friends were having fun playing alphabet games on the Smartboard! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Tuesday, December 16th:
* The Adventures of Tinsel * It seems Tinsel is back to normal after her party - she cleaned off all of the "silly string". It looks like she was still in the mood for fun and had a game of "Tic-Tac-Toe" with Lucy the Lion (our school mascot!) Monday, December 15th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * It seems our elf had a party over the weekend! I guess she came back from the North Pole early! Even Mrs. St. Louis' elf got in on the action! Jingle Bells left the grade 1s a note that Tinsel had a party and it was a blast! We had a busy day today! We celebrated the third week of Advent and lit the pink candle. We sang "Light the Advent Candle" and really enjoyed the song. To celebrate Advent we made mangers for baby Jesus. One friend commented when she saw the 3 kings ~ look, it's the 3 wise guys! Very cute!! As usual "Santa's Workshop" was a very busy place today! We got a new apron to use - it says "Santa's Helper". We really enjoyed making cookies today lots of great designs!! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Friday, December 12th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * Much to our relief, Tinsel was back in the classroom this morning! She left us a new Christmas book, "A Porcupine in a Pine Tree" for our collection and a cute little porcupine to go with it! We had a very busy day today. This morning we continued our inquiry into the 5 senses and learned about touch. We did a fun experiment ~ only using our sense of touch we had to describe an object in a paper bag and guess what it was. Mrs. Dilabio came for a visit and she sat at this centre with us!! This afternoon we had Art-O-Rama! We would like to thank, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Devlin, Mrs. Dinardo, Mrs. Kovacs and Mrs. Zatylny for making such fun crafts to share with the children! They loved it! Here are some great photos of our day: Art-O-Rama Photos Snack was fun this afternoon ~ we got to eat it picnic style because all the tables were being used as centres! Have a great weekend!! :)
Thursday, December 11th:
* The Adventures of Tinsel * This morning we were shocked to find any empty classroom. Tinsel was no where to be found! She left us a note saying that she was spending the day in Mrs. Dilabio's (our vice principal) office. Apparently Tinsel loves shoes as much as Mrs. Dilabio does! She sent us this great picture and then we went to visit her! Wednesday, December 10th: * The Adventures of Tinsel * Tinsel greeted us this morning having a ride on Rudolph! She left us a basket full of treats to be delivered to the people in our school who take care of us everyday. We gave some to teachers, one to Mr. Davis, one to Mrs. Hoffe and one to Mrs. Dilabio! Tinsel told us to spread "Santa's love" and wish them a Merry Christmas!! We have had a busy couple of days. We have been learning about the letter "H" and its' sound! We are also still loving patterns in math! As always, my friends are excited to use technology in the classroom. These friends are enjoying using the Smarboard and the computer to build gingerbread houses! What shapes have you used? "Santa's Workshop" continues to be a popular choice. Lots of baking, wrapping and sleigh riding is going on! Some little elves caught the Christmas spirit and decided to do some building and car racing! Have a wonderful evening and be safe in the snow! :)
Tuesday, December 9th: * Jonathan's Butterfly Wall Fundraiser * The grade 6 class will be raising funds for a boy named Jonathan Pitre who has a rare skin disease called EB. This disease makes his skin so delicate that it hurts when he’s touched, puts his clothes on, or even eats. When anything brushes his skin it blisters and gets rashes that take a long time to go away. It takes him 2 hours to get ready for bed so that he doesn't get the blisters or rashes. Jonathan’s dream is to see the northern lights because he thinks it will bring him closer to all the people with EB. He also wants to help raise money for EB awareness. The grade 6 students at St. Anne school are raising money to help Jonathan with his dream by selling origami butterflies for one dollar each. On the 11th and 12th of December students will be going from class to class selling the origami butterflies, which will then be put up on the wall outside the Learning Commons to show support for Jonathan. For more information about Jonathan and his mission, please visit http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/butterfly-child-dreams-of-the-northern-lights http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/butterfly-child-dreams-of-the-northern-lights * The Adventures of Tinsel * Tinsel had a special treat for us today! After her adventure with the Gingerbread Man she thought we all might like a gingerbread cookie to have at snack. She left the cookies in a tin in front of the Gingerbread Man and she was sitting on top of our Smartboard in the Christmas garland! That crazy elf!! |
