Happy Monday! We started a new "mni-inquiry" in math today. We are exploring shapes and looking for them in our everyday lives. To kick off our inquiry, we read the book "The Greedy Triangle". During snack, we looked at our lunches and noticed all of the shapes in our food and our containers!
Please keep an eye out for a list of High Frequency Words (a.k.a. Popcorn Words, Sight Words) that will be coming home in your child's mailbag within the next few days.
Sight words are words that are to be automatically recognized by a reader. These words are to be learned so that each time they are encountered, the reader does not need to struggle with decoding. There are 12 words that make up approximately 25 percent of all reading - a, I, it, the, and, in, of, to, he, is, that, was. Other words that are good to know (especially for the SKs) are - an, at, can, Dad, do, go, like, little, love, me, Mom, my, no, play, she, we, yes.
Geoboard fun - and not one of them was shooting elastics!
