Since the morning was so rainy we decided to start our day with the book "Diary of a Worm". The story generated much discussion around the importance of earthworms.
The children were able to make connections to our "Spring to Life" inquiry by stating that worms are important for the soil. By working the soil (tunnelling around) worms make it healthier and easier for plants to grow.
They were also able to connect the importance of earthworms to our discussion about Earth Day. Earthworms help keep the soil and plants healthy. When the soil and plants are healthy the earth is healthy. I have also posted a couple of songs about Earth Day that the children have really enjoyed.
