Happy Friday! We have had a very busy week. We continued our winter inquiry and conducted an experiment with ice. We asked the question "What Melts Ice the fastest?" Friday, January 30th: Happy Friday! We have had a very busy week. We continued our winter inquiry and conducted an experiment with ice. We asked the question "What Melts Ice the fastest?" We conducted an experiment using salt, sugar, baking soda and nothing. The children brainstormed ideas and then voted. Here is our chart! In the end we discovered that salt melts ice the fastest. We were surprised to learn that the ice melted almost as quickly when we added nothing! Here is our chart with the times that the ice melted! We have been having so much fun with the magnetic blocks that today we decided to experiment with magnets. We put a bunch of materials on the table and discovered that anything made with metal stuck to the magnet. We then had some fun trying to stick the magnets to our zippers! Magnet wands were not the only magnets we were experimenting with today. Some friends were using the magnetic letters to make words and their names! In the writing centre we were exploring some new activities using the dry erase markers. Some of the books were mazes (great for problem solving), some were dot to dots using numbers and letters and others were tracing letters! We loved them! As always, games on the Smartboard and computer are fun ways to practice our language and math skills! It is always more fun when you do it with friends! Since it was so cold today we decided to play with the sand! We imagined we were on a warm beach building sand castles! We have been learning about the letter "O"and its' sound! We made an octopus as an activity and practiced writing "o's" on the Smartboard! Have a wonderful weekend! :)
