Just a quick note to let you know that due to an unforseen medical issue I will be away from school for the next two weeks. Obviously, during that time I will be unable to do any blog posts. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Mrs. H :)

Wednesday, September 26th: My friends had a very busy day today! This morning we explored colour and put on our scientists hats. We discovered that by mixing the primary colours (red, yellow, blue) we can create the secondary colours (orange, green and purple). Once we mixed the colours we put white carnations in the water - my friends hypothosized about the results! The flowers are going to turn the colour of the water! Here are some great photos of our experiment! We met our reading buddies for the first time today! They are a grade 4 Immersion class and they will be with us on Wednesday mornings for a bit! Sometimes they will read us French books, sometimes they will be our math buddies (playing games and practicing our numbers in French) and sometimes our tech buddies on the iPads, Smartboard and Chromebooks! Here are some great photos of us getting to know each other (they helped us with some colour activities)! It is a great way to build school community! This afternoon we made a chart - we answered the question "Quelle est ta couleur preferee?" (sorry the French accents don't work here) "What is your favorite colour?" Here are the results - pink was the runaway winner! This friend did some amazing writing! He created rhyming words - aweome job! He was so proud to show me! Our math activity was of course - sorting by colour! Great job friends! What colour activity would be complete without a little colouring? I asked my friends to draw a picture using only their favorite colour and some friends couldn't pick just one colour! :) This friend is using the iPad to practice writing her letters - she is tracing them with her finger. Good practice for printing them and it helps develop her fine motor skills! Too fun! Love to see my girls building and designing with the big blocks (the boys usually get there first :) Have a woderful evening :)
Sunday, September 23rd:
I hope this blog post finds all of you safe and well. As I am sure you have heard St, Anne is closed tomorrow. Here is the annoucement that has been posted on the St. Anne website. Sunday, September 23, 2018 The Ottawa Catholic School Board will close all schools and the Board office on Monday, September 24, 2018. This decision was made in consultation with city emergency services due to extensive power outages and damage to several areas of the city. The safety of our students, families, and staff, is our top priority. School closures mean there is no before and after school care, child care centres are closed, and there is no community use of schools or extracurricular use of schools on Monday, September 24, 2018. We continue to keep in our prayers the families and staff affected by Friday’s tornados, as well as all first responders. Please refer back to this website or the board website at ocsb.ca on Monday, September 24, 2018 for an update regarding the next school day. Saturday, September 22nd: Sorry for the late Friday post - getting home yesterday in that wind was a bit chaotic! I hope all of you are safe and well and have power! Thank you to all of our parents who placed a Scholastic order I entered the orders on Friday night (I know your children are very excited as they asked me many times when we would receive the books :) you can tell them we should have them by Wednesday - maybe sooner! The children and I had a fun afternoon on Friday (my schedule this year means that I am with on Friday afternoons not morning). They were having fun using the lacing activity to make shapes (and work their fine motor skills), doing puzzles (working their problem solving skills) and of course playing math, language and coding games on the iPads! Here are some great photos! Have a wonderful weekend! :)
Wednesday, September 19th: Lost and found: Please take a look at the picture of the cute hat below. I know it belongs to one of my friends but none of them recognize it as their own. If it belongs to your child could you please jot a note in their agenda. My friends had a very busy day today. This morning, they were exploring numbers and counting using the links and number cards, doing some sorting using the tweezers and pompoms (this activity is also good to develop their fine motor skills), played on the iPads and Smartboard and enjoyed creating structures with the magnetic blocks! Here are some great photos! This afternoon my friends had fun doing puzzles, using the light table and some of friends were scientists! They were drawing the crab apple tree outside our window and noticing changes - this week the leaves are green, they are going to keep observing once a week and note the fall changes - they are excited to see how long it will take the leaves to change! Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, September 17th: I hope you all had a wonderful weekend ~ I must apologize for so long between posts - things have been very hectic the first two weeks but my friends are adjusting to the routines of school and we are on track! :) I will be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If there is a special announcement or something important you need to know I will occasionally post on a Tuesday or Thursday! My friends and I did a little gardening project this morning. Remember our "Fairy Garden" from last year? Well, needless to say, the plants did not do so well over the summer - so today, some of my friends helped me put in new soil, plant some new plants and place our fairies! Other friends were having fun experimenting with manipulatives, playing on the iPads, building elaborate structures and using the melting beads (this really helps develop and strengthen their fine motor skills!) Have a wonderful evening! :)
Monday, September 10th: We have had a very busy day today! My friends enjoyed exploring a bunch of activities today and had a great time in gym with Mme. Dewar! Here are some great photos of their day! Please note that there was an email sent to sign up for pizza lunches. If you wish to order pizza for your child you may do so online - see the St. Anne website for details. Have a great evening :)
Friday, September 7th: Mrs. "A" and I have had a very busy week reaquainting ourselves with our SKs (so many fun stories of summer adventures) and getting to know our JKs. I am so proud of all of our friends! We had our first fire drill today and as you know the alarm can be very scary. The children were amazing and we will continue to practice safety procedures so we all know what to do in case of an emergency! Here are a couple of photos of the fire drill. Here are some great candid shots of various activities this week. Have a wonderful weekend - thanks to all of the parents who left a comment on the blog - it means a lot to me that you use the blog and find it helpful! I promise more structure to our posts next week! In the meantime, enjoy the photos :) Have a wonderful weekend :)
Tuesday, September 4th:
As you all know, we have a new ECE this year. Her name is Mrs. "A". We were both very excited to see our SK friends this morning. They had so many stories to share with each other and their teachers! Please note that I have sent home the communication book. As always, if you write a note kindly leave the book open so that we are able to read the notes quickly - with 27 little friends going through each book takes awhile. Thanks in advance for your help with this! If you sent in a yoga mat today and got it back tonight I am kindly asking that you cut it in half (so that it is shorter). As you can imagine storing 27 yoga mats in our room is difficult and takes up a lot of space. I will keep the half you send in until Christmas holidays - at which time I will throw it out. Please send the second half back in January with your child. This way, the yoga mats stay cleaner and are easier to store! I have a few candid shots to share with you from today! I didn't have a chance to take many photos as we were busy organizing ourselves and getting reaquainted! I promise more photos to follow this week! Have a wonderful evening! |
